I always make it a point to not read reviews or watch previews, so I absolutely have
no idea what a movie is about before I go. Also I'll walk away from any conversations where folks are talking about new movies just so I'm "totally" surprised.
Take great actors (Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon), add in sports (Rugby)
and history (South Africa - mid 1990's) and you have the formula for a very entertaining
movie.
The new movie Fame is an enjoyable update of the original 1980 film by Alan Parker. The dancing, singing, and performing aspects of this movie by the students/actors were absolutely top shelf. Well worth the admission price to see the performances.
I wanted to like this movie. I was in the mood for a good movie, I love foreign films, and Juliette Binoche is a brilliant actress. Yet this movie was down right painful.
The Count Basie Theatre will be screening the classic John Hughes film, "Pretty in Pink" on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 6:00pm. Following the feature, at 9:30pm at the Broadway Diner, a special "Pink Carpet" event is planned for 100 girls (14 or older).
2008's Red Bank International Film Festival is finally taking place, and while it's no longer 2008 and it looks like this year it's not happening in Red Bank, it's certainly something you should check out. The festival will be happening on Sunday, May 3rd at 10am at Monmouth University. Tickets are $10 per person for the full day.
