Red Bank Student NEws - Week Ending 3/9/12

I have profiled RBR Junior (and RBMS graduate) “Garrett Sickels” before for his athletic,
academic and good citizen prowess.

After getting 23 – yes 23!! Division I football offers from most of the powerhouses around
the United States (including Stanford and Notre Dame), Garrett just “verbally committed”
to play for the legendary Penn State University program as either a Defensive End o
r Linebacker (Penn State is known historically as Linebacker U. for sending so many
players to the NFL).

(Sorry to Rutgers Scarlet Knight fans who can see the trademark "R" on Garrett's shirt -
no doubt Rutgers was on the "short List).

As shared previously, Garrett, a fabulous student that is totally focused on all the right
things, kicks butt in the classroom, has never forgotten his Red Bank friends, and always
stays away from the drama.

The last great Red Bank kid who attended Penn State was “Eric McCoo” who graduated RBR
in 1997 as a high School All American. At Penn State, he led the team in rushing for 3 years,
is their 9th alltime leading rusher and many more honors including being named MVP of
the 2003 World Bowl for the Berlin Thunder.

Kudos to Sophomore “James Cross”, (RBCS class of 2010), achieved varsity status in
wrestling this year, won his 1st Varsity match and wrestled in the district championships.

Juniors “Zuleyma Lopez” (RBMS class of 2009) and Noemi Valdetano-Luna (RBCS class of 2009)
each were selected as recipients of the highly prestigious EPIC/Polonsky Bros. scholarships
where they’ll be going to an east coast college of their choice this summer. Many, many
applicants and this is an experience of a lifetime. Will keep you posted on their college
selection and course of study.

CBA senior from Red Bank, “David Large” participated in the World Indoor rowing championships
last month at Boston University (the Crash B’s). In the Junior Lightweight division, he set a
personal best and is now ranked #32 in the world!!

Thank you to the following Red Bank students that helped at this past weekend at the 1st
annual Red Bank Replay $1 sports Equipment sale for RB kids held in from of Prown’s
Home Improvements for the benefit of Equipmentforkids.com. Thank you “Josue Madriz
Picado, Salvador Tecalero, Gemma Ciabattoni and Arturo Varela”

Just an update on recently featured RBR graduate ‘11 (and RBCS ‘07), “Alejandro Cortez”.
He got his first promotion working in the local recruiting office. He¹s currently in
San Diego, for infantry training, and then is supposed to continue with Recon training.

Recently RBCS and RBMS basketball players Dominigue Bryan, Elijah Jules, RJ Etheridge,
Quanlecia Etheridge Daystar McMillan, & Alim Godsey attended the fantastic Maroon and White”
2 day basketball camp at RBR run by the esteem Head Coaches Mr. Scott Martin – Boys and his
staff and Mr. James Young – girls, and his staff.

They are tremendously involved coaches and RBR teachers that run multiple, successful
camps per year. Check out their web site for details about their upcoming summer
basketball camps - http://www.maroonandwhitebasketball.com/

Staying with basketball, congratuations to RBMS 8th grade boys “Nijer Mitchell and Kyreeh
Farrow” for making and playing in the 2012 league all-star game.
