Horizons Summer Program for Red Bank Kids "As Good As it Gets"
Every year 80-90 Red Bank kids (out of a total of about 110 in the camp) in grades K-8 attend the Horizons Summer Program at the Rumson Country Day School.
Typically 1/3rd of the kids a solid academic achieves, while 2/3rds are moreso middle to bottom achievers
For "Free and Reduced Lunch kids", this all day, 5 week camp overs a fabulous diverse summer experience for kids. There
a strong academic and arts program combined with a killer pool/learn to swim program which is the highlight of every day.
Excellent teachers from several of the local schools oversee the academic program.
Transportation is provided to and from the school from a central bus location at Count Basie Park. Kids get 2 excellent meals
a day and all participate (on a rotating basis) in terms of serving and cleaning up the tables.
The "Backyard Swim Program" involves the kids walking to one of the local private homes where the CYMCA (2 instructors and
a lifeguard) provide a terrific swimming experience at some of Rumson's most exquisite homes. What a great things for these
homeowners to open up their pools to these kids.
There is 19 Horizon programs national serving about 2000 kids.
Costs about $ 1,800 per child per summer and the children are only asked to contribute $50. They can really use
your donation.
