Overcrowding - Borough Hall Style
On Sunday January 3rd at 11am at Borough Hall held the annual Reorganization meeting. Once again, the number of folks that have to stand hidden in the hallway and away from the sound system is just not right.
This gathering allows the Mayor & Council to swear in new council folks, fire chiefs, reappoint staff, put people on town committees, give a report on the state of the town etc.
This actually is an important event and many citizens like to come. Word to the wise, if you don't arrive an hour early, have the "legs" to stand for 2 hours, or aren't over 6'2" tall to see over the crowds...don't bother coming.
I can't tell you the number of people over the years who have told me they have simply stopped going because they can't get in and get a seat.
So why is it that they continue to hold this reorganization meeting in a location that is way too small in terms of both sitting and standing room to accommodate the large audience that attends (or wants to attend)?
I am sure with our good relations with either the Basie or the RB middle school
(like what happened with the Economic Summit and the Health Care hearings respectfully), that we could find a date to relocate the reorganization meeting to one or the other larger venues.
