Move over Moby's...here Comes Boondocks
After an exhausting three hour tennis match in Marine Park, I found myself starving and limped across the parking lot to Boondocks Fishery & Grill to try Red Bank's newest eatery. WOW!! I found awesome food, an incredible atmosphere, and reasonable prices (along with "FREE Sunsets").
Boondocks was recently opened by Kelly who runs Donovan's Kitchen in Sea Bright during the day. Despite maybe being the hardest working lady in town, she was incredibly energetic and welcoming.
The restaurant is B.Y.O.B. eatery and is open for lunch and dinner. It's important to note that they only take cash (fortunately there is an ATM right on site).
Boondocks is fast becoming famous for huge, all meat crab cakes, succulent soft shell crab sandwiches, and blackened or sauteed Grouper finger appetizer. The Tuesday night special which gets you TWO LOBSTERS for $19.95 packs the place. Coming soon: Whole belly fried clams and hard shell crabs.
Boondocks is also totally kid friendly ... in fact, while waiting for your food, children are given fishing nets and invited to go down to the lower dock of the restaurant and instructed with a smile to "catch your own dinner" - brilliant marketing.
On July 3rd, the night of the fireworks, $75 will get you all you can eat. Tables offer a great view of the fireworks. Sounds like the an ideal location for a perfect, casual night.
